The final destination of this itinerary is undoubtedly the Andromeda Theater, particular for its history and for how it is growing in visibility over time, also thanks to a strong wave of curiosity from tourists from all over the world.
The Andromeda Theater is defined as “the visionary masterpiece of the pastor-sculptor Lorenzo Reina“.
Alessando Novoli describes it as follows: The nakedness of the blocks of rock that delimit it has the austerity of the walls of Mycenae and the simplicity of a mànnara, the Sicilian stone fence for the flock, but the circular scenic space, in its bare, unadorned essentiality, has the abstractness of a timeless place, where matter loses its waste to become a symbol. A humble patera, a cosmogonic space, a thin and permeable border between past, present and future: this is the Andromeda Theatre, visionary creation of the Sicilian shepherd-sculptor Lorenzo Reina. Modern interpreter of that extraordinary link between ritual and representation, between ethics and aesthetics that was the theater of the origins, of which Sicily preserves some of the most significant architectural “incarnations”, Reina collects the wonderful echo relaunching it towards the future, feet firmly anchored in those roots that have in the link between nature and culture their strongest fiber. Open position on the landscape, this theater becomes landscape itself through the natural mediation of art, which for Reina is “poetry of life”.
There are many other works in the short path to the theater.
The entrance to the site costs 10 €.
It is really worth to immerse oneself in such a wonder and for a moment admire the horizon from a new perspective.
To get to the theater you must reach Santo Stefano Quisquina and continue for another ten minutes upward by following the signs duly placed along the track.
Before arriving in the village and consequently at the theater, you can also stop in the Monti Sicani Park, an open-air oasis of wild nature where man still doesn’t seem to have arrived. Only a few picnic area well cared for and paths immersed in the green of the forest that lead to the mountains. Our suggestion is to stop at Savochello which is an equipped area where you can leave your car for a walk / purse and then refresh under the forest in the cool even in the torrid Sicilian summers.
From this area you can cover even more than 20 km if you go towards the mountains, beware that you also climb quite a lot as a difference in altitude. In our itinerary we chose to walk the paths proposed by the signs from east to west entirely so as to have a general overview of the paths and we had a lot of fun. Pay a lot of attention to the signs because in the middle of the woods it is easy to get lost by mistaking one road for another.
Trail Type: wooded dirt road
Water: inside the equipped area
