Departure from Riale for this new tour in the nature. This time we stop in the high Formazza Valley. Riale is a hamlet of a few houses from where many excursions depart to go to high altitude. Don’t be fooled by the fact that it is already at 1700 meters, there will certainly be uphill to do.
Before going towards the Val Toggia, let’s take a ride also towards the Morasco Lake because today we want to make a ring that can trace all the lakes here in the area. So keeping the left after Riale we start to climb towards the dam of Morasco.
Simply after we keep the left and continue the ascent until a fork that will bring us back down to Riale and then resume the ascent towards Val Toggia.
The climb is very straightforward, very steep but it will take you shortly after to leave Riale behind putting in your legs several hundreds of meters of difference in height.
The ascent is totally in the middle of the green, between glimpses towards Riale, Morasco and waterfalls that will often keep you company.
As soon as the first part of the path ends, the road will become carriageable and in a few bends you will reach Alpe Ghighel that will take you directly in Val Toggia.
Lake Morasco, now behind us, shows itself in all its grandeur from up here.
The path that will take us to Val Toggia will be very easy once we are almost at 2200.
Finished the climb the view on the lakes of the valley is really unique, as much as the colors that in sunny days make it a beautiful frame.
From here the trail remains mostly flat, with some slightly technical points.
Please note that the section towards San Giacomo Pass is not particularly marked.
From the pass to the Maria Luisa Refuge is all easy carriageable road and also on the plain.
Once we see the hut in front of us, all that remains is the descent before returning to Riale.
All descent that we can decide whether to do on carriageable or cut in the various paths.
