To reach the beginning of the excursion you have to drive up from Introbio towards Val Biandino, through an asphalted road on the right side just after the village.
The road continues to climb until you will see some cars parked along the sides, until you will arrive to a first barrier (there are 3 on that road).
The first signs tell you that you can’t go further but you can still proceed up to the third bar to avoid a bit of height difference (without a view) and moreover very much on concrete, even if there is still a path that climbs cutting all the hairpin bends. To be sure, ask for info in the municipality of Introbio as the info we have may change over time.
We suggest you to arrive at least until the second bar where you can find a comfortable parking lot.
Only caution, a car not too low or in some unpaved areas you may not be able to move forward on the ground.
Take the path immediately on the right to start climbing towards the first stage of Val Biandino, Rifugio Tavecchia.
After less than two kilometers you will return to a piece of concrete before reaching the next fork to resume the path.
The path continues on the left and goes along the whole valley until it reaches Tavecchia Refuge, the real starting point of Val Biandino and of the whole excursion.
On the way you will also meet the Agriturismo La Baita, very characteristic.
After about an hour’s comfortable walk you reach the Tavecchia.
The Tavecchia Refuge is now behind us, we head towards the valley and the refuges that are waiting for us: Santa Rita and FALC.
Leading into the valley you pass the Madonna delle Nevi Refuge and keeping the left side immediately after you start to climb towards the first destination, the Santa Rita Refuge, which you can reach comfortably after a few hairpin bends not too difficult that also allow you to admire a pleasant view over the valley.
Continuing along the west ridge of the valley you can point to the Falc Refuge, about 1 hour walk (even less) from Santa Rita. The path is easy and does not have any particular slope and also allows you to admire the Val Varrone that you will find on the left side from Premana.
Falc Refuge and Inferno Lake The view from the refuge is really unique and you can admire the Inferno Lake just ahead in all its majesty under the Pizzo dei Tre Signori which is the master.
To come back and close the ring, you have to go up towards Bocchetta di Piazzocco and visit the second lake of the day, Lago di Sasso.
Smaller and shallower than Lago d’Inferno, but with the possibility of staying on the shore to have a bite to eat. Once at the Bocchetta you must pay particular attention and follow to the left to get down to the lake, otherwise on the right you risk to go back to Santa Rita and miss this little piece along the way.
In this higher and less beaten is more to make close encounters with marmots that live numerous along the entire area. The path that leads to the Lake of Sasso is not very beaten, but it is marked with the usual red and white colors and after 10 minutes of walking appear also the signals with the path 41 that is the one to follow. Once you reach the lake, you will have to close the descent for the remaining 5 km to get back to the car.
Type of Route: until Rifugio Tavecchia you can choose to do the dirt path or the concrete road, then only dirt road
Water: there is the possibility to drink only at a little fountain outside Rifugio Tavecchia, it is necessary to have water or to buy it in the refuges along the way
