Lake Como is characterized by a variety of incredible landscapes ranging from views overlooking the lake itself, the steep mountains, up to those places characteristic for the craftsmanship of the place that made them known. Today we take you to one of them: the Trail of Expressions!
The Sentiero delle Espressioni (Expressions Path) is a path that starts from Posa di Schignano in Val D’Intelvi and arrives at the foot of Sasso Grondona, 10 minutes from Rifugio Prabello.
It’s not easy to find a place for your car in Posa, so we suggest you not to arrive too late to grab one of the few places.
The first part of the route is immediately challenging and takes us in about 1.5 km to overcome about 350 meters of altitude difference and arrive at Alpe Comana. Although the first part may seem difficult for children, we recommend this route for them because of the particularity of this path, the so-called “expressions”.
The expressions are nothing more than wooden sculptures that will accompany you along the entire path. These sculptures evoke something of the area and create a fil rouge with the history that has passed through here over the years.
All the sculptures are the work of the association M.A.SCH.E.R.A. famous for the famous Carnival of Schignano. The children, but also the adults, will have fun discovering animals, real or fantastic characters, scattered along the path.
The signposting is very well done (yellow posts everywhere) and 12 “expressions” accompany us up to here. This can already be a first stop to make a stop and try the excellent products of ERSAF mountain pasture, surrounded by donkeys bells and cows grazing.
The path goes on for another km in the wood and with a slight slope it leads to the fork to Alpe Comana. Here you can decide whether to climb another 100 m of elevation gain or continue on the coast, but it is absolutely worth it: you are on a panoramic balcony over the entire Como branch of the lake, ranging up to Bellagio and Comacina Island.

The path then continues for another km in the woods and with slight inclines leads to the junction to Alpe Comana. Here you can decide whether to climb another 100 m of elevation gain or continue on the coast, but it is absolutely worth it: you are on a panoramic balcony over the entire Como branch of the lake, ranging up to Bellagio and Comacina Island.
Retrace your steps back to the main path and continue for a couple of km almost flat until you reach the Roccolo del Messo, a building once used by hunters to catch birds. Continuing for another km we reach the small villages of Colma di Binate and Crocetta. We manage to find as many as 25 “expressions” in this stretch which is the richest in sculptures.
The last 2 km pass by Mount Fontanella and Sasso Gordona. A little further on we find a deviation that indicates that on reaching the top of the rock we can pass through the trenches of the Cadorna line. The last 10 expressions, not by chance, are reproduced in the theme of war and alpines.
.With a slight descent we finally reach easily the Prabello refuge, where it is possible to eat typical dishes and the welcome of the young managers is really good!
For the return to the starting point it is advisable to go back to Crocetta, possibly facing the ascent to Sasso Gordona to admire the hut and the panorama from above and from here take a well-maintained mule track that in about an hour takes us back to Posa.
We thank our friend Mattia Pirotti for this beautiful itinerary on this Lake Como that never stops to amaze us.
