Monopoli is a charming seaside town in the province of Bari. On the Apulian coast it is one of the most active ports in the entire region. In the Middle Ages Monopoli had expanded its boundaries up to where today Locorotondo and Alberobello rise, because of its strong growth due to the continuous crossroads of port travel with the East.
As well as many other Apulian cities is distinguished by its historic center of a bright white that at times resembles the villages of Greece.
The most historical part of Monopoli overlooks the sea and offers not bad views, as well as a small beach for a few intimates.
Walking along the sea you arrive at the port that represents the heart of the city, with its boats with the most imaginative names.
Each alley reminds us of something typical and characteristic of this place. From a simple boutique of local handicrafts to a few places where you can enjoy an excellent aperitif in front of the sea.
Even in the evening Monopoli seems to tell us something, almost as if it wants us to see its second face. Especially at Christmas time it lights up with a magical atmosphere.
Our tour is a ring that will serve to enjoy the particularities of the place, but an advice? If you really want to enjoy Monopoli do as we do … abandon gps and phone and “get lost” in the narrow streets of the old town, only then can you really grasp its essence.
